About 1Password
At 1Password, we’re building the foundation for a safe, productive digital future. Our mission is to unleash employee productivity without compromising security by ensuring every identity is authentic, every application sign-in is secure, and every device is trusted. We innovated the market-leading enterprise password manager and pioneered Extended Access Management, a new cybersecurity category built for the way people and AI agents work today. As one of the most loved brands in cybersecurity, we take a human-centric approach in everything from product strategy to user experience. Over 180,000 businesses, from Fortune 100 leaders to the world’s most innovative AI companies, trust 1Password to help their teams securely adopt the SaaS and AI tools they need to do their best work.
If you're excited about the opportunity to contribute to the digital safety of millions, to work alongside a team of curious, driven individuals, and to solve hard problems in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, then we want to hear from you. Come join us and help shape a safer, simpler digital future.
We’re building a new Developer Relations & Platform Experience team, and we’re looking for an Engineering Manager to help shape it from the ground up. This team sits at the intersection of engineering, advocacy, and customer experience — owning the open-source tooling, SDKs, and community touchpoints that empower developers building on the 1Password Developer Platform. As we expand deeper into AI-powered capabilities, this team will also help guide how developers integrate 1Password with modern AI workflows, tooling, and automation.
You’ll support a team of developer advocates and engineers focused on earning and maintaining trust with our community. You’ll guide the stewardship of our open-source repos and developer tooling, ensure customer feedback is heard and acted on, and help influence the Developer Platform and AI roadmap based on real-world needs. You’ll mentor the team, collaborate across product and engineering groups, and ensure we’re shipping solutions that feel intuitive, reliable, and delightful for builders.
For this role, you can be located within the US or Canada, and will be expected to be fully remote.
What we're looking for:
Experience managing engineers and/or developer advocates, especially in a hybrid DevRel + engineering environment
Strong technical fluency with modern developer tooling, SDKs, APIs, and emerging AI ecosystems — you don’t need to write code daily, but you should be able to “talk the talk” and guide the team through technical tradeoffs
Familiarity with AI developer workflows, such as working with LLM APIs, retrieval systems, embeddings, or AI-based automation tooling
Comfort representing AI-related features, patterns, and best practices to external developers while feeding insights back into the product
Experience owning or contributing to open-source projects, including reviewing PRs, triaging issues, and managing community contributions
A track record of engaging with developers in public forums (GitHub, Slack/Discord communities, StackOverflow, etc.)
Ability to foster an inclusive, supportive, high-trust team environment
Demonstrated ability to drive projects to completion and build clear, customer-centric, technically informed roadmaps
Experience scaling teams, systems, and processes
Experience managing remote, distributed teams
What you can expect:
Help set and support strategic direction for the Developer Relations & Platform Experience team, including for AI-powered platform capabilities
Own the health, quality, and evolution of our open-source systems, SDKs, AI tooling integrations, and sample applications
Act as a bridge between developers using AI workflows and the internal product/engineering teams building them
Drive alignment across the Developer Platform organization and ensure the team’s work supports broader company and AI initiatives
Represent the voice of the developer by collecting feedback from public forums, customer conversations, and open-source contributions — and translating these into actionable roadmap insights
Work closely with platform, security, and AI teams to define high-quality solutions that integrate seamlessly into developer use cases
Scope, prioritize, and plan work with the team to ensure predictable delivery and iterative improvement
Provide technical direction in collaboration with senior engineers and advocates
Coach and mentor the team to grow their DevRel, technical, and AI-related competencies
Recruit and retain top-tier DevRel and engineering talent in a rapidly evolving AI landscape
Help refine hiring, onboarding, and development processes as the team grows

We are committed to leveraging cutting-edge technology—including AI—to achieve our mission. We also understand that thinking critically about AI in its current forms will help us create better solutions for our customers and ourselves with its future forms, which will help us continue to close the gap between security and privacy and achieve our mission. We want team members at all levels to take the approach of actively learning AI best practices, identifying opportunities to apply AI in meaningful ways, and driving innovative solutions in their daily work. Embracing the future of AI isn't just encouraged at 1Password—it's an essential part of how we will be successful at 1Password.
