Overview
Backflip is a venture-backed FinTech committed to becoming the leader in residential real estate investment financing. Our vision is to increase people’s love for their communities by investing in housing and improving the physical world. To do that, we need people who are inspired to modernize real estate investing by connecting entrepreneurs with sophisticated capital. Backflip’s capital product menu consists of fix and flip financing (RTL), single family rental loans (DSCR), and New Construction.
The Business Systems Manager owns the governance, configuration, and integration integrity of Backflip’s core business systems — starting with HubSpot and growing into LoanPro. This is a hands-on, judgment-driven role: not an engineer, not a project manager, but the dedicated systems operator who administers HubSpot end-to-end, reasons across system boundaries, and pushes back constructively when requests point in the wrong direction. This role plays a critical part in ensuring our systems remain clean, well-integrated, and trusted as sources of truth as the business scales.
This position reports to the Chief Product & Technology Officer and offers the opportunity to play a foundational role in scaling Backflip’s systems infrastructure as the company grows. This is a remote role, with occasional travel required (company offsites, etc.).
What You’ll Do
Own HubSpot governance end-to-end — establish a formal request, prioritization, and change-management process for all configuration and data changes; design and enforce a role-based permissions framework with field-level restrictions and data entry standards
Audit, rationalize, and consolidate the Zapier and broader automation layer that writes to HubSpot or other core systems — documenting and justifying each remaining workflow against a “could this be a native integration?” test
Own the HubSpot data integrity roadmap — remediate existing issues, prevent new ones, and coordinate with Engineering on any integration that reads from or writes to HubSpot
Trace every incoming request to first principles — surface system-of-record violations before they get built, identify when workflows or duplicate fields are compensating for missing integrations, and recommend the right architectural answer (not just the requested one)
Support the LoanPro implementation in the near term by absorbing discrete workstreams (e.g., Moov integration, read-only data flow into HubSpot); take over vendor coordination as implementation stabilizes; assume full operational ownership at steady state
Maintain working knowledge of adjacent systems (Feather AI, QuickBooks or future ERP, the data warehouse, Middesk) and flag cross-boundary issues even where this role does not have primary ownership
Serve as the connective tissue between business operations, Engineering, and external vendors — acknowledging, scoping, and resolving systems requests with judgment rather than reflex
Document the why, not just the what — build frameworks and processes that hold up over time and run without your constant intervention
Qualifications
5+ years of experience in business systems, RevOps, systems administration, or a similar role at a high-growth fintech, lender, or operations-heavy SaaS company
2+ years of hands-on CRM administration experience (HubSpot, Salesforce, or similar). Personally configured custom objects, properties, workflows, permissions, and integrations in a production CRM
Demonstrated experience auditing and rationalizing an automation layer (Zapier, Workato, native HubSpot workflows, or similar) — not just adding to it
Strong integration and data architecture instincts — ability to reason across systems, identify the system of record, and design clean read-only data flows between systems
Comfortable with APIs, webhooks, JSON, and basic SQL at a fluent-reader / occasional-writer level; does not need to write production code
Track record of constructive pushback — can point to specific examples of redirecting a request from the wrong system to the right one and walking stakeholders through the reasoning
Experience in lending, financial services, or another transactional environment is a strong plus
Direct or adjacent experience with a loan management system (LoanPro, NLS, Mortgage Cadence, FICS, or similar) is a plus
1+ year of experience working in a remote or distributed environment is preferred
Self-directed, accountable, and proactive — thrives in build-stage environments where the playbook is still being written
What Success Looks Like
All HubSpot configuration changes flow through a documented, well-understood request and prioritization process. Stakeholders trust the process and the system
The Zapier and automation layer is materially smaller, fully documented, and intentionally justified — not silently compensating for missing infrastructure
A permissions framework is in place, enforced, and reviewed quarterly. Data quality at the field level is measurably better than it was at start
LoanPro reaches steady-state ownership under this role within 6 months, with no implementation slippage during the transition
Cross-functional partners (Sales, Capital Markets, Servicing, Engineering, Finance) consistently report that systems decisions are faster, better-reasoned, and less reactive than they were before this hire
You adopt AI into your workflow and are eager to find tech-forward ways to gain efficiency and reduce manual work
